Operationalization of Gaon Kalyan Samiti (GKS) and community based monitoring are important aspects with regard to the accountability framework as well as community ownership process envisaged within the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) to realize this important concept of commutisation. Human Development Foundation (HDF) has organized three batches of training programme with support from UNFPA on “Capacity Building of key Functionaries of MNGOs and FNGOs engaged in RCH Programme for Operationalising Goan Kalyan Samiti (GKS) and Community Monitoring of Health Services under NRHM in Orissa.” Ninety Two NGO representatives from 26 districts were participated in the programme.Focus was given to KBK districts. The resource persons from NRHM of Government of Orissa, CHSJ, New Delhi, UNFPA, HDF, Bhubaneswar and other agencies who are already involved in piloting GKS operationalization in the state such as BGVS, JSA, OVHA and White Ribbon Alliance shared their experience and objectives and benefits of GKS with the trainees. The objective of the training programme was to facilitate the process of Operationalising Gaon Kalyan Samiti at the grassroots level, provide handholding support in developing village health plan and strengthening community monitoring process at various levels in ensuring effective implementation. As community monitoring encompasses both monitoring and planning at the grassroots (Village) level through formation of GKS, it is extremely important to build the capacity so that in the long run it promotes communitisation of health services meaningfully. It will also facilitate decentralized planning starting from village level to make the development process robust. Eminent resource persons and guests were participated in the training programme, among others Dr. Hemant Diwedi, Dr Deepa Prasad, Dr. Almas Ali, Dr. Haribandhu Panda, Dr. Manmath Mohanty, Mr. D.K Roy, Mr. Sudarsan Das, Dr. Dhanada Mishra, Mr. Sishir Grahacharya, Mr. Rudra Narayan Pradhan, Mr. Gauranga Mahapatra, Ms Sarita Badapanda, Ms Sunita Singh, Usha Rani Behera, Sukanta Pradhan and Subrat Bisoyi were delivered their inputs and suggestion.
